What is periodontology?

These are various inflammations of the tissues surrounding the teeth and the mucous membranes in the oral cavity. When we talk about periodontal diseases, we most often mean gingivitis or periodontitis.
Periodontal disease are very common. The most common causes are: smoking, insufficient attention to oral hygiene, contributing to the deposition of tartar, genetic factors, low immunity, hormonal disorders, bruxism, inadequate nutrition (especially nutrition devoid of vitamins and minerals), malocclusion.
Proper oral hygiene is particularly important here, not only brushing your teeth at least twice a day, using dental floss to clean the interdental spaces, and rinsing with fluids. Otherwise, the bacteria found in unremoved dental plaque may develop dramatically, which turns into tartar.
What is most important the effects of periodontal disease can be serious. It's not just minor inconveniences in everyday life or an unsightly appearance. They significantly increase the risk of complications such as heart disease, atherosclerosis, pneumonia and a number of other diseases. Subgingival scaling
It involves removing tartar from under the gums. It is more complicated, but allows you to effectively remove accumulated bacterial plaque. After it is performed, fluoridation is also used to strengthen the tooth roots. Thanks to this, tissue regeneration is faster.
Closed Curettage
Tartar and accumulated granulation tissue are removed from the periodontal pocket that forms when the inflammatory process is advanced. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia.
Open Curettage
When the inflammation is advanced and the pockets are already deep, it is necessary to cut the gums to remove the tartar. Then you can precisely clean the tooth surface. This procedure is also performed under local anesthesia.
